Productivity Tip: Get Organized
Being organized may seem like the most obvious tip out there but it’s remarkable how many people skip over this important are of productivity and time management simply because they don’t think it will be enough of an impact to be worth their time. Fortunately it’s never too late to get organized and it can always make a big deal when it comes to being efficient. How often do we waste time running around looking for something we’ve lost or paying dues or fees of some kind because we weren’t organized, on time, or something got lost. Being organized is a great thing you can do to improve almost every aspect of your life simply by putting a little time and effort into it. It can make your life a lot simpler, less chaotic, and much more enjoyable. Plus you’ll be a great deal less stressed and all of this can transfer into a better work environment, better relationships, and more beneficial habits.
The first step in getting organized is just to clean up and de-clutter. That means throw away any trash, things you don’t use any more, stuff you don’t need or don’t want any more (you may not want your tax documents but you need them so be fair here when you throw things away) and just generally clean up wherever it is that needs it. It’s also important to begin a general process of cleaning up what all you have in your work space and then finding specific places for each things to go. If you can’t find a place for everything you have in your office to go then it’s time to downsize. Be ruthless and only keep things that you use or need in with you. It’s not worthing having to dig through stacks of paper or files to find something you need every time you get a phone call. Clean up and throw out - you’ll be glad you did.
If it helps then it’s also useful to use some sort of filing or labeling system that serves your particular working needs in such a way that makes things easier or simplified for you and helps you be more efficient. If you don’t have such a filing system then it might be time to make one that can suit the type of work you do and creates a little more order in your life.
This type of organization can, and should, be applied to every aspect of your life. If you can manage to get your working environment organized it will be that much easier to get other areas of your life organized as well such as your car or your home. If you are able to get all the main areas of your life organized you’ll enjoy greater productivity in not only your working environment but in all the different aspects of your life. Greater productivity leads to more work and value created which means more income or revenue which can translate into more vacations and since you’ll be so organized you’ll be able to fit even more fun into your vacations than you did before - doesn't that sound good?
